Synopsis:
From New York Times bestselling author Cassia Leo comes a twisted and passionate love story that pushes the boundaries of loyalty.
Maybe we shouldn’t have fallen so fast and so willingly.
Maybe we shouldn’t have moved in together before we went on our first date.
Maybe we should have given our wounds time to heal before we tore each other to shreds.
Maybe we should have never been together.
Houston has kept a devastating secret from Rory since the day he took her into his home. But the tragic circumstances that brought them together left wounds too deep to heal.
Five years after the breakup, Houston and Rory are thrust together by forces beyond their control. And all the resentments and passion return with more intensity than ever.
Once again, Houston is left with a choice between the truth and the only girl he’s ever loved.
The Way We Fall is the first book in The Story of Us series, which follows the tumultuous love story of Rory and Houston. The sequel, The Way We Break, will be released Spring 2015.

Excerpt:
August 13th
Houston Cavanaugh.
The first boy I ever loved. And boy, did I love him a long time. I loved him until he was a man. I loved him
until he loved me back. At least, I thought he loved me.
His eyes narrow and he appears confused for a
moment. “Jamie?”
My heart drops to my feet.
He doesn’t even remember me.
“No,” I say with far too much emotion.
“Oh, my God. I’m sorry. I... I know you.”
I clutch my chest, unable to breathe. Then his eyes widen with what can only be described as pure terror.
“Rory? Aurora?”
I let out a sharp puff of air. “Yeah.”
His lips are still moving. I want to hear what he’s saying, but my thoughts are pounding in time with my heart. Images flash in my mind: our bodies tangled in his sheets; the breakfast bar littered with sticky shot glasses and empty beer bottles; my empty dorm.
“Rory?”
I blink a few times to focus on his face and he looks at the floor, as if the weight of our history is pulling his head down.
“I’m sorry. Maybe I should come back later.”
“What? No!”
He looks up, startled by my outburst.
“I mean, you came to talk about the contract, so... let’s talk. I’m...” I nod toward the chair for him to sit down, then I close the office door behind him. “I’m sorry for spacing out. I was just a little surprised to see you.” I take a seat in Jamie’s chair and yelp as it begins to tip backward. “Shit!”
Houston laughs as I scoot forward and lean my elbows on the desk, hoping he doesn’t notice how the sound of his laughter makes the hairs on my arms stand up.
“Sorry. Obviously, I don’t sit on this side of the desk very often, but Jamie didn’t want to reschedule this appointment. She should be here shortly.”
“You don’t need to apologize.” The left corner of his mouth pulls up in his signature half smile and I grit my teeth against the surge of emotions welling up inside me. “I’m actually kind of glad we ran into each other.”
“Really? You hardly remembered me a minute ago.”
He chuckles again. “Yeah, sorry about that. I was just surprised.”
I can’t argue with this when I just used the same excuse. But it’s no more true coming from his lips than it is from mine. We’re not surprised to see each other. We’re terrified

Thanks to Inkslinger PR and Cassia Leo for providing me with an ARC of The Way We Fall in exchange for an honest review. Annnnnnd, I loved it!!

***Small Spoiler Alert***

Aurora -Rory- is a simple girl. She has loved her best friends brother since she was eleven years old. Funny how it's things as simple as a childhood crush that cause the most issues for us. Thanks to a college relationship which ended she had her heart broken. No, that’s not right, it was more like her heart was ripped out, stomped on and tossed into the gutter. Her jaded past is what's help for the girl she is today. Today her best friend has four legs and always ready to give her slobber kisses is her constant companion now. She works at Zucker's Grocery and has for a little over a year now. After she graduated from college she had an internship at the Oregonian but she wanted out of her moms place and out on her own two feet... So she applied and here she is. Rory spends her free time writing and taking Skippy her chocolate brown lab to the dog park. So in all she is an average twenty something that's grown up a little faster than others.

Not that Rory hasn't been through enough in her life fates desired to toss a hacky sack at her and say catch. Doing a favor for her boss puts her face to face with her now married college ex-boyfriend, Houston. They’d had time together after Hailey’s death. Six months of love, lust and affection shared between them both had come to a screeching halt with just a few words. Desperation made them both think it could work out but it wasn’t enough. The emotions grew stronger and then the anger takes over. They fight and Houston leaves her… So seeing him today.. was such a reminder of what had happened. As if her heart wasn't broken enough it took him a few moments to recognize her. (Or so he played off… not sure what...) Though she recognized him the moment she opened her bosses office door. Talk about a slap in the face. But he recovers. Houston is there to pitch his companies beer to the store for an upcoming bar they'll be owning. Apparently his college hobby of making ale called 'Barley Legal' led him into what he does today.

So now here he sits face to face with the girl whose heart he stomped on in college. The day he and Rory split ways was the worst day and mistake he ever made. As they talk about his.. contract Rory gets a call from her mom. Her dog, Skippy had collapsed and wouldn’t wake. This of course sends her into a frenzy. Houston is at her side the moment he sees how upset she is. He offers to take her home so he can get her there fast. By the time he gets her home, only a few minutes pass but her pup is awake. She sends him on his way but she can’t worry about him now. She has to focus on the pup and not let him in. She leaves him to get himself outside and goes onto the vet with her pup.

As the days and time pass Rory’s thoughts are all but consumed with Houston. As his were full of her. They may have had a rocky relationship and breakup but there were many emotions filing them both. Their memories flood them of the days from early life and college. They both had feelings for each other but it wasn’t until college that they made their relationship take that next step. Houston’s secret, one that would possibly be more damning to Rory than it was to him. When present day comes back in Houston is ready to talk to his wife. He wants Rory, he really isn’t happy with his life as it is. Rory is the one that got away. But the biotch throws a kink in that chain. She blurts out that she had been to a fertility clinic. Of course he was stunned then pissed the fuck off. She had done it all behind his back. She knew he did not want kids. This causes a major problem to their already fragile relationship. His thoughts once again go to Rory. He goes to his office and pulls a box from the closet there. It contains a USB full of pictures and an engagement ring. A ring he bought for her back then. One he wanted to give to her then but didn’t. It would be a promise now to make things right.

When he delivered the small box to her they made an arrangement to open it together, so she could see what was in it. But as it turns out Houston has a ‘family emergency’ and isn’t able to make it. Try shows up that day for the inspection and he is actually happily stunned to see Rory there. In the days after that things start to get into a somewhat stable but wild pace. Rory and Houston are both still in a bad place.. but the rut is just what it seems to be a road they are meant to travel. In time Houston decides to take that next step. Leave his crazy ass wife, and be with the one girl that he has always loved. It was time for a do-over; so to speak. But as with the past... the present comes back up and slaps them in the face. Houston’s wife goes crazy and attacks Rory, in the dog park of all places. Houston of course goes after her and then it all falls apart. Its now time to tell Rory everything.. no matter what Houston had planned he has to do it and hope for the best.

When Houston shows up at Rory’s with the letter Hallie had left the day she killed herself... Rory’s world is turned upside down and is turned inside out and stomped on. Houston is determined that no matter what they would always be drawn to each other.

I love Cassia’s writing and honestly this was a very good book. I can't wait for the next one!!! Because I neeeeeeeed more. HA. I love the way the characters are built into this world Cassia set them in. The dynamics, the many levels of craziness there is there is what makes it such an intense read. Both Houston and Rory have so much baggage between the two of them you could fill up Sacks. But in all honesty I want to shake them and make them focus on what they need to be focused on. I do hope they get their shit together.
