"I was minding my own business, using my skill to win enough money at the blackjack tables to pay off my student debt, when I noticed someone else was minding my business, too.
He was hot, he looked ultra-rich, and he had no reason to notice me. So why was he stalking me from table to table? I thought I might be in trouble for winning too much.
I had no idea how much trouble it would turn out to be."
***Sinful Deal is Part One of Full Tilt Billionaire, a Billionaire Erotic Romance novella presented in serial format. It is not a standalone. Expect a cliffhanger!***
As soon as I said it, I knew I phrased it improperly. Her face drained of color and she began backing away.
“Wait, I didn’t mean it like that,” I said. Worried she’d turn and bolt, I grabbed her wrist, making her gasp.
“Let go of me or I’ll scream.”
I spared a brief thought for the disaster that would bring and released her, holding my hands up, palms facing her in surrender. “Please. I don’t mean you any harm and I really didn’t mean what it sounded like.” I smiled. That had been known to win over a reluctant woman or two in the past. It worked on Tara, too, as she relaxed.
“You’ve been following me all night,” she accused. “What do you want?"
First, thanks to Jessa Jacobs for providing me with a copy of Sinful deal to read in exchange for an honest review. Secondly, I loved it. This first installment is one of five. Yes, five. So at the end of each one is a cliffhanger. I knew this going in but thankfully this first cliffhanger wasn’t so bad. But I do want more. Like now. Well actually about 30 seconds after I closed the app on my kindle I wanted more. (laughs) And I know there is a cliffhanger but damn.. (widdles my thumbs until installment two is here... )
***small spoiler alert***
Well it seems our main characters are going to be a good match. The nerdy, card shark Tara (not like in Gone with the Wind, even though that’s the first thing that popped into my head) and Marcus.. (who is cocky, yet suave about it) had a few moments of concern, mainly on Tara’s part when she catches him watching and following her around the casino. See what happens when a girl tries to kill time until her room mate gets off work? Such a hardship that is. But seriously.. a hunky, sexy man following you around should worry you. But when his tailored suit costs more than a small car.. LET HIM STALK YOU.
I mean.. (coughs) that didn’t come out right. You let him ‘watch’ you until you can figure out what in the name of Mary he wants. If its a hot date say yes. A booty call say.. um, no. If its to get to know you, ask for a drink at the bar and get to talking. Though Tara, our sweet nerdy, baggy clothes wearing Tara gets way too creeped out when he finally joins the game table she is at. He is so close and when he asks her to get a drink she agrees… reluctantly. I think she wanted to scream “Stranger Danger” but she held back. What Marc wants from her is nothing short of a game changer. Both literally and figuratively.
After having breakfast with Marc and agreeing to come to HIS place after she gets off work the ball really starts rolling. He wants her to basically work for him. He wants to teach her and her nifty little card tricks to play Texas Holdem. (And that game, to me is hard as hell.. lol) After some thought, and letting the amount of money she could really win in the tournament he wants to ‘train’ her for she agrees. And days later we get to see a whole new side of Miss Tara. Girlfriend is hiding a killer body under the frump and baggy clothes. But thanks to a makeover only a movie star or a Kardashian can afford girlfriend is ready to strut her stuff. (I swear I had a flash from Miss Congeniality and The Princess Diaries… I was LMAO at the pictures in my head..)
When her unveiling is done, its then that Marc realizes just what a little hottie she is. Talk about temptation. Its Eve and the devil all over again. If she takes a bite out of his apple she will forever be changed. Because that man gets what he wants. He has enough sexappeal and money to make it happen.
First off, many thanks to the author, from whom I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This series is set in Las Vegas, and as the description tells us, Tara has a talent for gambling. She possesses a nearly eidetic memory, and uses that skill to great effect at the blackjack table. Her talent is truly impressive, and despite her attempts to fly under the radar, she is noticed by a mysterious man. Marc Andretti runs a security firm for the casinos, designed to catch people cheating the house. He cannot figure out how she is doing what she is doing, or even if what she is doing is technically cheating or not. He approaches her. After assuring her that he is not trying to bust her, he asks her how she is winning as often as she is. Tara is suspicious, but winds up trying to explain her method to him. Marc then reveals his game: he wants to teach her how to play poker, Texas Hold’em, to be exact, so that she can use her talent to win big. For some reason that hasn’t been revealed, he is banned from gambling in the casinos, including one that is owned by his family. If he is her coach, he reasons, it will get him back into the good graces of the bigwigs, who will allow him to play again.
I like Marc, even though I can’t figure out his motivations. I like the fact that he is offering her a chance to use her unique talent to make money, not just throwing money at her, which would make her beholden to him. She can walk away if she wants to. (Should she? This is possibly a dangerous game he is playing.) He’s not a jerk, even though he does come off as a little high handed - remarking on Tara’s cargo shorts and tacky t-shirts. I called him a little snot for that, but had no real hostility towards him. He doesn’t come off as arrogant, which I like.
I was reminded of Pretty Woman at a few points. (That’s a good thing) He starts to teach her the game and she catches on quickly. It leaves us right as he sees her all dolled up from her makeover, dressed to kill and with what he knows is a talent to slay at the table.
The characters in this story are well drawn and complex; the plot is intriguing, and it leaves you wanting more. I enjoyed this little tease of a story, and am eagerly awaiting the next piece of the puzzle.
About the Author:
Like you, I’m a reader. When I read a good story with characters I can connect with, my everyday existence fades into the background as I enter a world that may contain exotic locations, adventure and excitement. And, if I can be totally honest with you, in my favorite stories I can fall in love for a while with an impossibly gorgeous guy who is the best lover imaginable.
So, maybe it won’t come as a surprise that in my books you’ll find hot alpha male book-boyfriends, sassy heroines who are much more clever and beautiful than I am, and stories I hope will make you laugh and cry while reading them, as I did while writing them. Oh, and some scenes you may want to role-play with your lover.
