Barb's Book Review... Dive Bar Heat

Dive Bar Heat: A Grant's Bar Romance
Alice has no luck with love. She spends her nights in a dive bar surrounded by men, none of them dating material. They’re good for a chat and a joke but she sees them as friends, not as potential partners.

Then the owner of the bar arrives and he starts pouring red wine, unheard of in a beer bar. After he takes an interest in Alice’s photography, she begins to feel something for him. It seems he feels the same way. They share a romantic kiss but a family emergency calls him away before anything more can happen.

When Alice learns Graham’s ‘family emergency’ is not what it seems she’s left reeling. Did he really care for her or is Alice just another notch on a bar owner’s bedpost?

First off let me thank Natalie Hart for providing me with a copy of this installment of Dive Bar Heat to read in exchange for an honest review. Secondly... dear lord. It was well written. A good story line and the characters had just enough personality to know who you like and not by the end.

***small spoiler alert***

Seems Alice has the self esteem of a gnat and about as much self confidence in herself. She has a job that is not up to her potential but its something she can strive to do well at. Her life is plain, boring even. She works, she goes to the bar and she goes home. Ugh. That's as boring as watching paint dry.. in the winter. (snickers) But things start to change when she goes to the bar one night and there is a new face behind the bar. A sexy, muscle bound face at that. In a tight t-shirt too.. (blinks) wait, what was I saying? Oh hey, hotness at 5 o'clock.

Graham, Mr. Tall, dark and sexy happens to be the owner of the bar. Of course Alice had heard of him but had never seen him. Now that she had she'd never forget him. They spend the night talking as he works, and she ogles. They even manage a few extra minutes alone after everyone is gone. They start to get hot and heavy but when they decide to leave something comes up and Graham has to leave. This messes up Alice's head slightly. She has bad luck, and no self esteem. I mentioned that right? So then a misunderstanding the next night send Alice home to wallow in her sorrow. ugh, I will admit I wanted to shake the spring rolls out of her. (rolls my eyes) Crazy girl.

So after a week of nothing from him or her Alice is just pitiful. Talk about a spillin' your peanuts out of a topsy turvy cracker jack box. Sheesh. Thankfully their friend Alex comes to talk to her. And he straightens out the misunderstanding. But the thing that gets me.. okay so this chick just met this dude and yes I know she was ready to ride him off into the sunset but clingy much? I get the inst-connection here. Love at first sight even but she really needed a good slap. And not the good kind.

Now that Alex has told her everything, things that she needed to hear its up to her to see if she wants to move passed it and get a grip on the thing called reality. Hopefully she will be sorted from now on and not act like a loony toon drawn backwards.

And.. again.. I did enjoy this story! A lot! I can't wait to see what is next!

Barb's Review... The Accidental Demon Slayer

It's never a good day when an ancient demon shows up on your toilet bowl. For Lizzie Brown, that's just the beginning. Soon her hyperactive terrier starts talking, and her long-lost biker witch Grandma is hurling Smuckers jars filled with magic. Just when she thinks she's seen it all, Lizzie learns she's a demon slayer-and all hell is after her.

Of course, that's not the only thing after her. Dimitri Kallinikos, a devastatingly handsome shape-shifting griffin needs Lizzie to slay a demon of his own. But how do you talk a girl you've never met into going straight to the underworld? Lie. And if that doesn't work, how dangerous could a little seduction be...?

the accidental demon slayer.jpg

(Laughs so hard) OMG! I'm so hooked and I'm just a few pages in. I have this in audio as well and let me tell you the audio version is brought to life by one of my favorite narrators, Tavia Gilbert. With her voices making the book come to life I'm sold!

***small spoiler alert***

How would you like to have a Harley riding granny, find out you have a talking Jack Russell terrier and to be told you were a demon slayer all in the space of an hour. Oh yeah and also find out demons are real, face one and kill the effing thing? Well that's what Lizzie Brown gets. Not only is she trying (now) to escape demons, nymphs and God only knows what else she is having to keep up with a happy Jack Russell and a hog ridin' granny. When all hell breaks loose, again, they're both fighting to keep alive. Lizzie is able, with the help of a griffin, to get away from the water nymphs. She gets her granny and try to get away only to find their hog is destroyed. No worries though, the sexy, yet oddly mysteries Dimitri shows up to save them. According to her granny, Dimitri is Lizzie's "protector". Lizzie instantly feels drawn to him even if he makes her feel uneasy at the same time. But she is willing to go with him in order to escape the waiting troubles. They make it to the bar (hideout) that her granny's coven is hold up in and that's where Dimitri tells her he must speak to her. That night.

Dimitri does keep his word and talk to her that night but not for the reasons she hoped before. Lizzie was startled awake by him and they jumped out the bedroom window. Not a good way to wake up but it was the only thing Dimitri could do to keep her safe. When they landed a good ways from the bar he begrudgingly tells her that something at the bar isn't right. Lizzie of course thinks of her granny and her dog. If something's there she can take it on, right? Um, yeah no. But she and Dimitri do come to an understanding. She will get his protection, fully but she has to agree to listen to him and do as he says. It's a favor. She'll owe him. What what is the question. When they get back to the bar Dimitri goes in and comes back out a torn up mess. It's time to go. He hops on a bike and they head to a safe house. But what they find when they get there is a whole lot more trouble and. Few headaches. What's left of the coven is there as well as a wolf pack. Yep big, growls weres. Seems in he absence the witches spoke for Lizzie and now she will be working for the mutts. Seems they need some black spirits taken care of.

But like with anything learning to use her gifts is hard. And while Lizzie struggles to get a grip on herself the wolves power struggle grows. Lizzie is able to save the Alpha's son, Dimitri's friend and all in time to get her own ass away before all hell breaks lose. Just when things settle down and Lizzie gives into her needs with Dimitri... He lets her in on something he's been holding back. Needless to say the truth will only piss a demon slayer off. She leaves him stranded and heads for the meeting point with witches. Determination growing stronger in her.

But no matter the anger she holds towards him she also feels a pull towards him. So when it's time to face the demon she takes Dimitri with her. And then the race is on. It's a fight until the end but she doesn't back down. And one dead demon means not only is she safe but her grandma is too. But her and Dimitri may be a different story.

Thing is... loves a crazy thing. Almost as crazy as demon slaying. Poor Lizzie has choices to make now. And quickly or she may lose something she wants and needs before it ever blossoms.

Our Reviews... Jessa Jacobs' Surrender the Bet

Surrender the Bet (Full Tilt Billionaire, #4)
Better the Devil you know than the Devil you don't.

I didn't know Marc anymore. Where was the charming man who won my heart? The on again off again nature of our personal relationship wore me out, but his slightest touch brought me back into his arms, helpless to withstand his power over my desires.

Now he has banished me.

Must I really give him up forever?

**Barb’s Review**

Holy Poker chips, Batman!

Okay, first off, thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this installment to read in exchange for an honest review. This is an awesome serial series. Jessa has taken something that is new (for me at least, meaning the whole gambling aspect) and turned it into a hot little story of adventure, sexiness and just good storytelling.

Secondly, I repeat. Holy Poker Chips, Batman! Marc has lost his ever loving, pig headed, stupid mobster mind! Okay, his family is pissed at Tara. So he is stuck between a rock and a hard place but oh my god he is being a little bitch! A HUGE arsehole too. Grow a pair man. I mean, damn. Poor Tara. I swear if I was her I'd have rung his bell, stepped on his nuts and walked away without a second glance. Though that is kinda what happens but she doesn't let him suffer long enough. lack of things to do can make you go back to stupid but damn.

The man has serious issues. I-S-S-U-E-S I tell ya, Issues!

He sort of redeems himself when they go off for the tournament. He and Tara grow close again. Spending extra time doing things that she likes. Marc lets her get back into that bubble of security and then like usual his arse makes a show and it all goes up in smoke. Hot flaming smoke. Because since he is a pussy Marc lets his family dictate his life. Tell him who and what he can and can't do. I get it they are the mob and all of that but for Christ sake there comes a time in a man’s life where he has to suck up what he has been taught and act like his own man.

Time to suck it up buttercup! I really hope his balls grow back and he tells him family what they can do with their ultimatums. He and Tara belong together for so many reasons, one being that they both love each other. Yes, I said it looooooove. Its not a curse word. But it maybe something they miss out on if he doesn't get this head from the sand.

**Emmy’s Review **
surrender the bet.jpg

Many thanks to the author, from whom I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The hits just keep coming for Tara and Marc.  Tara found Marc’s family secret in Hard Hand, and when they return from Atlantic City, Marc tells her that she should take a nice long vacation, for her own safety. His family is not to be trifled with, and (unbeknownst to Tara) he is doing all he can to keep her out of their cross hairs.  Tara, for her part, is upset at the loss of their relationship, and curses herself for a dozen different kinds of a fool for thinking that she and Marc could ever have a real romance.

I have enjoyed the developments with the family angle, but I would think that now that Tara has been told, she would have been able to put two and two together and realized she was in danger.  But like magnets, it’s not long before the two of them are drawn together again.   They tell themselves that it’s their gambling relationship that’s paramount, but they can’t help themselves.  They are terribly fun characters to watch bounce off of each other: in my opinion, Tara and Marc are one my favorite couples of all the books I have read this year.

Just when we start to get comfortable and think that things are finally looking up we are hit with another bomb.  The “family” has only just begun to meddle, which will surely have disastrous consequences for their budding romance, and possibly Tara’s very life.

The next chapter cannot come soon enough.

I am completely overwhelmed. My core is on fire and I want so much to kiss him, to touch him. I feel sparks of electricity shoot through every fiber in my body and every nerve ending is screaming for release. I want his hands on me, all over me.
I put my hands on his chest and push him away. He’s too close, making it hard to form a single thought. I take two steps to the side to put some distance between us so I can speak like a human, not a lust induced zombie. “Yes, they towed my car and it’s in their lot. I haven’t really spoken to them about it yet. I kind of fell asleep on them…”
His face clouds over and he says, “You kind of fell asleep on them? What. Does. That. Mean?” He pauses between each word and growls them at me.
“Jonas took me to see Doc Jordan and he gave me something for the pain, but because I hadn’t slept in days it made me sleepy. I think he ended up carrying me to their clubhouse.” I realize how all this must sound. If someone told me that exact same story, I would be thinking the worst.
“Did they touch you, Amare?” he growls at me, his eyes blazing with anger.
“No, no, no! In fact, Jonas put a guard on my door so no one would go near me. Not that they would. I was safe, Sal.” Something crosses his face and he stares at me so intently that I look away and stare at the floor. He moves back into my space and lifts my head up.
“Thank you for getting me coffee. Let’s go have breakfast and I’m buying. I think I shall keep you in my sights to make sure nothing else happens to you. I have never met a woman who allows herself to get into so many dangerous situations, in such a short space in time. You, my Amare, are a handful.” He moves away from me and does up his shirt, then grabs his jacket. He opens the door to his room and extends his arm. “Shall we?” he asks, offering me a smile that reveals his dimple. My core clenches again and I have to fight the urge to throw myself at him.

Release Blitz... Audrey Carlan's May Calendar Girl

Title: May
Series: Calendar Girl #5
Author: Audrey Carlan
 Release Date: May 28, 2015

Swimsuits, sun, surfing, and a sexy Samoan.

I headed to the island of Oahu, Hawaii to meet with cutting-edge swimsuit fashion designer, Angel D’Amico, to serve as head model for the “Beauty Comes in All Sizes” swimsuit campaign. The designer wants to show the world that beauty is not just a size two. My curves got me into this gig, and, the moment I laid eyes on my modeling “partner,” I’d never been happier with my buxom form.

Tai Niko had everything the average man lacked. Height, broad shoulders, a nipped in waist, square pecs, tree trunk thighs, and a look that rivaled “The Rock.” The part that made me drool and weakened my knees, was the thick, intricate tribal tattoos running down the entire left side of his muscled frame from shoulder to ankle. The design was unlike anything I’d ever seen, and I couldn’t wait to trace the tips of my fingers over every inch.

In the fifth book of the Calendar Girl serial, Mia is sent to Oahu, HI. Still on her mission to save her father, she embraces the model life to prove beauty really does come in all sizes.

Each installment in the Calendar Girl Serial will release every month throughout 2015. The stories will feature Mia’s journey as an escort to twelve clients in twelve different locations.

Warning: This book is designed for audiences 18+ due to language and graphic sexual content.
