Barb's Review... Protecting Alabama

Protecting Alabama (SEAL of Protection, #2)
Alabama didn’t have a good start to life. Emotionally and physically abused by her mama, Alabama spent her high school years in foster care. People let her down, time after time, and she’d learned to rely on only herself.

Christopher “Abe” Powers earned his nickname because he tolerated nothing less than absolute honesty from the people around him. Finding the bar scene stale and having watched his friend and teammate, Wolf, find the woman of his dreams, Abe was determined to find someone to share his life with too.

Alabama and Abe had no idea their paths would cross and their prayers would be answered, but like most things in life, nothing is ever as easy as it seems at first. Two words would change both their lives and they’d have to fight hard for their happy ever after.

**Protecting Alabama is the 2nd book in the SEAL of Protection Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.

Okaaaaaay… OMG! I had to go straight to book 2. Like I had to, could not stop, needed more and more and more of this series! It was like Whoa… this series is awesome. I love how it goes from serious to funny then back to serious again. I do love these characters. They seem to grow on you as the story plays out. Alabama’s story is one that may hold triggers for some. So please keep that in mind. But the story will weave its way into your heart. And.. there could be a few tears involved. I did think the ending was a little rushed. I would have like to have seen it play out a little longer but overall it was a great story!

Christopher Powers, aka Abe, is all for kicking the twat he is dating to the curb but it’s not until an unforgettable night at the Wolf Reality party that all of his priorities changed. While Abe and his date a fire breaks out. He had already met Alabama Smith. A quiet, small girl who melts into the background but made him speechless for a few minutes. She was… beautiful and did things to him that the twat he was ‘with’ didn’t do to him. And it was that small woman that saved his life and the life of countless others when a fire broke out. Without her and her quick thinking…. things may have turned out badly.

So when things moved forward and Alabama became his her life was on a good path. Alabama even got brave enough to tell Christopher about her childhood. What her mama had done to her. How badly she had been hurt. It tore him up to know she had been through so much. Days together made their bond grow and grow. Christopher’s ex twat of course is the only one not happy now. (laughs) Not that you could blame the cow but hey, you are a twat so adios. Alabama was growing a little more confident, a little more outspoken. Thanks to time with him and his family, aka the team. She had gotten a close to Caroline and the rest of the team. This whole... love thing was still so new to her. Meeting Christopher’s family, his mother and sisters was an overwhelming moment in her life.

Just when she thinks her life is on a good path, life is good, her hearts full of love something goes wrong. Alabama is arrested for being a thief. Though she knows she is innocent. She begs for them to call Christopher. The day for him had already been a shit of the day, he was pissed at himself, so the news of what happened hits him hard. He takes out his insecurities of what his father had done, and he took it all out on her. He crushed her. I mean he is a complete and utter arsehole on top of being an arsehole. Jupiter sized a-hole. The hurt that piled up on her after he stormed out and left her there in the station. Alabama completely shut down. When Dude (Faulkner) finally got Abe (Christopher) to tell him what was up his ass all hell broke lose. The entire team had put him on their shit list for being an arse.

Days pass and it’s a man hunt for Caroline. Christopher doesn’t know where she was. Faulkner, Matthew and Caroline had gone and gotten her out on bond and after that she disappeared. Not even tex could find her. So, finally they were able to get to her by using her lawyer. By the time the team shows up to talk to her she is told (by her lawyer) she was free of charges. They had found the guilty party. And Christopher made it a mission to ruin his ex’s life for effing with his girl. Now it’s a road of winding passes, slippery corners and a lot of slick ice. Christopher and Alabama have to re enforce their relationship. Christopher has a lot to make up for. Being an arse for one. Though he is resigned to let her be. He knows he hurt her beyond healing. He just wants her to be happy… so he walks away.

Hopefully the saying, “all good things come with time” will come true. That or the man needs a preacher.. might be a good idea anyhow.

About the Author:
Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Texas where she lives but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, and Indiana. She is quite the romantic and even met the love of her life on "Hotmail classified" before online dating and sites like match.com even existed!

Susan has been reading romance novels since middle school and once crossed out the names of the main characters in a book and changed them to her own and to the name of her crush. She's been writing scenes for years, developing her unique writing style.

Susan loves writing but her true passion is adopting dogs from rescue groups and shelters. Susan and her husband have had a total of nine "rescued" dogs since 2000 including a variety of basset hounds and bloodhounds. She has recently branched out and adopted a basset/terrier mix who acts more like a terrier than a basset (i.e. digging, eating a couch and being hyper). If you love romance and want to help her support adopting great dogs,
