Barb's Reveiew... Taking Shots

Elli Fisher has never thought she was good enough, let it be her job, her weight, her love life, nothing. That is until she meets Shea Adler. After doing a promotional shoot for the NHL team, the Assassins, she meets the hunky hockey player who shoots a puck, shattering her world.

Shea Adler was tired of the life he was living outside of the rink. The girls, the money blowing, the drinking, everything had to stop and it all did when he met Eleanor Fisher. He had never met anyone like her. She was feisty, witty, shy, and simply gorgeous. When he laid eyes on her, it was as if he was taking the hardest hit of his life into the boards, and he had to have her. Elli is a little skeptical of Shea, but he knows that they were meant to be together, and he needed her in his life.

Can Elli throw her insecurities out the window and love Shea with everything inside of her, or will she let a past relationship, and her family ruin any chance of her being happy.

Alright, I found this series by chance. Literally scrolling through Goodreads on day and I found a new little button that let me search for books by telling it to give me Hockey. I frigging love Hockey.. so thanks to that sweet little button I now have many, many new books.. and I am so HAPPY I found this series. The characters are funny, intense and there were a few dozen times I wanted to choke them both.. haha.

So all in all it was a great book. Fast and slow at the same time. Its a big book but every page left me wanting to hurry my butt up and read faster. Also have it in audio so when I was not able to sit still and read I was listening. I did feel the ending could have used a little more to it. It was kind of rushed but I am still anxious to get to book 2. I have a feeling this series is gonna be in with my favorite reads this year. I mean its kinda already there cause its hockey after all... have I mentioned I frigging love Hockey? Ha.

In taking Shots we meet Eleanor "Elli" Fisher, Assassins biggest fan and photographer and the Assassins Captain, Shae Adler and their family and friends. Elli is a strong willed, feisty photographer in Nashville Tennessee. Born and bred in a home that wasn't so loving at times. Elli comes from a rich family. And she herself thanks to a big inheritance from her grandparents is stinking rich, but to look at her, the down to earth, happy go lucky photographer, you'd not know it. Unless you saw her Gucci shoes!

Her mother is the evil queen. Like the evilness in Sleeping Beauty! Serious, they are one in the same. I'd like to stab her in the eye with the silver spoon she has shoved up her prissy arse. With a bad past, an ex from hell and her crazy family the last thing she's doing is looking for love.

Shae Adler, Assassins Captain, high scorer and all around hottie mchottie is a ladies man. A "player" if you will. He never takes the same girl home twice. A Boston boy who's in Tennessee along with his twin sister and her family. Shae's a good man and along with Elli he isn't looking for love.... but that's what he got. The moment he saw her he was ready to take on the fight of getting to know the sexy photographer grinning at him.

Shea, being the fantastic hockey player he is is also loaded. But they don't let their money define them. That is what I loved about them most.

Their story is one of love, acceptance, heartache and utter loss of control. The way Elli's family, mainly her mother treats her is appalling but her father and uncle simply adore her as they should. Shae is the only man she has let get closer to her in over 6 years. That in and of itself is a monumental event. He's head over heals for her and she for him. Just when you think nothing can come between them... something bad happens. The snake pulls back and strikes. Junk punching Shae and dragging Elli down the rabbit hole. Things literally go from on top of the world to down in the dumps for them both it hits them harder than it should have. The harder Elli tries to move on the more depressed she gets.

To say they are both miserable is putting it lightly. It's been months since darkness fell and Shae seeing Elli at the last game of the series before the play offs gets so enraged he puts a pick through the glass. Covering her and her co-worker on glass. Then it's a stand off. The South vs The North with 19,000 witnesses as they yell at each other. Talk about a hoot! But finally Elli listens to him. Taking in what he's been saying since the darkness hit. And when the truth comes crashing down around her.. she has no choice but to bite back her pride and go after the only man she has ever loved... and pray it's not too late.

About the Author:
My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.
I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.
I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.
… and did I mention I love hockey?
