Kason “Benny” Sawyer was the last single man on his Navy SEAL team. He loved his teammates like brothers and respected each and every one of their women. They’d all been through hell and they deserved their current happiness. But seeing the love between his friends and their women made it tough to be the odd man out all the time.
Jessyka Allen had a good life, until it wasn’t anymore. Finding herself in an impossible situation, with no noticeable way out, her job was an escape. Working at the small Bar and Grill put her in contact with some wonderful people, who Jess figured couldn’t ever understand what she was going through.
Being a SEAL, Benny thought he knew the true meaning of teamwork and friendship. But Jess would show him that everything he thought he knew about sacrifice, trust, and love, paled in comparison to what she brought into his world.
**Protecting Jessyka is the 6th book in the SEAL of Protection Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.
First, I must thank Susan for the copy of Protecting Jessyka that was won in a giveaway. Its what got me into this series. :)
Boo-effing-yah!! Another winner right here. My lord. Susan has a real knack at making you go through emotions in her books and this one here is no different! I love Benny and Jess. The dynamics of their story are different from the others and take it to an emotional level that in a few places had me in tears. Ha. That is the tell, tell sign that this book was amazing!
The story of Benny and Jessyka starts out in the bar. (A given, right?) But it’s not your typical story. Benny (who I adore) is the baby of the team. He is the last man standing as it would seem too. No woman in his life, he feels like he is missing something. And in reality he is missing a few things. Love, happiness… the warm fuzzies inside. Seeing Jess all the time in the bar he noticed little changes in her. But it wasn't until he took her arm one night to ask her something that made it all sink in that there was something wrong. She grimaced and that was not normal.
A protectiveness took him over. He was now on a mission to find out what was wrong with Jess. She was acting different, wearing way too many clothes and just not herself. If something, he feels they (the SEALs) should have noticed sooner. Benny decided there was something he could do for her. SO Benny, being Benny, the big teddy bear he is goes to the bar one night and stays until it’s time for her to get off. And, he takes her home. Making it known that he is her friend. That HE will always be here for her if she needs him. And the night she needs him the most he is there.
Benny had picked Jess up from the curb and had to take her to the hospital. The arsehole she was living with, who was just a roommate, had done a number on her. Benny made her a promise right then that she would never be hurt again. He’d do whatever he can to keep her safe. When Benny found out her home life wasn’t conducive to what he thought was right he offered her his spare room. As time passes the friendship grows. The closer they get the more the feelings between them grow, even though they both keep them to themselves. When things once again got tough Benny was right there for. A bright light in the darkness that her ex-roommate brought to the place. Though the rest of the gang is right there with him as well. They all like Jess. She’s apart of them now that she is Benny’s girl. Even if she doesn’t know that yet.
When they make the jump, take that next step things heat up with them quickly. As does the anxiety of what was happening comes to light small little Jess has to out wit a few SEALs to get out of the bar and to Benny. When that happens, Jess is shakier than a cat in a room full of rockin’ chairs. But when things come to a pass, and darkness falls over Jessyka, pain, heartache, the whole shebang its she who has to put herself on the line to keep Benny safe. And she does it without a second thought. Finally its Tex that figures out something is wrong. Gotta love that man, right? Tex pushes the boys into gear and with some quick thinking from Jess the cavalry, or SEALs in this case, come to the rescue.. but what they find is not really what they expected.
This book is amaaaaaaazing! One of my favorites. I am so Team Jessyka!
About the Author:
Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Texas where she lives but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, and Indiana. She is quite the romantic and even met the love of her life on "Hotmail classified" before online dating and sites like match.com even existed!
Susan has been reading romance novels since middle school and once crossed out the names of the main characters in a book and changed them to her own and to the name of her crush. She's been writing scenes for years, developing her unique writing style.
Susan loves writing but her true passion is adopting dogs from rescue groups and shelters. Susan and her husband have had a total of nine "rescued" dogs since 2000 including a variety of basset hounds and bloodhounds. She has recently branched out and adopted a basset/terrier mix who acts more like a terrier than a basset (i.e. digging, eating a couch and being hyper). If you love romance and want to help her support adopting great dogs.
