Excerpt:
The safe in the corner of the room had to be at least four feet tall and a hundred years old. The scrollwork on its once shiny black surface had scratched and faded with age. In the center of the door, a large, brass combination lock glinted in the dull light.
“So what’s the plan?” Michael brushed his fingertips along the rusted hinges. “Want to guess the combination? Or were you planning to teleport out with it? It must weigh a few tons.”
Turiel opened his leather satchel and pulled out a drill. “These old safes aren’t that hard to crack.”
“So, you’re a safecracker now?” Michael said with a smirk. “Oh, how the mighty have fallen.”
“If I recall correctly, there’s a specific angle we need to drill for this particular model.” Turiel crouched in front of the safe. Pressing his ear to the cast iron door, he tapped it with his fingertips. “Should be about…” He stopped an inch away from the lock. “Here.”
The drill whirred as he switched it on, and its bit pierced the metal in a matter of seconds. Once he’d made three holes around the lock, he rotated the knob, and the door opened.
“Not bad,” said Michael.
I kneeled beside him. “It should be on the top shelf.”
Turiel reached inside and pulled out the wrapped object. He removed the cloth cover to reveal a blackened steel sword with a Japanese-style blade. Its hilt had been carved with symbols, some kind of ancient lettering, and a fiery red light danced across the surface of the blade. Its presence sent a chill across my skin.
His features tightened as the object’s glimmering light cast red speckles in his violet eyes. He hardly blinked. “It’s quite beautiful,” he said with a gasp. “You’d never know it was so deadly from looking at it.”
Michael helped me to my feet. “It’s going to be all right now.” His voice was rough. His eyes glazed over as though a shadow had taken his focus, and he didn’t care that we weren’t alone. With a soft, lazy, smile, he brushed his fingertips along the side of my cheek, sending a tingle of heat into the base of my stomach that eradicated any chill. When he brought his lips to mine, his kiss was both gentle and deep, and my heart tugged into my throat from the intensity of it. He slid his hands to my hips and lifted me on top of the safe. Deep down, I knew this wasn’t the place to be making out, especially not in front of Turiel, but I couldn’t find the words to protest. It had been so long since Michael had kissed me this way. I leaned into him and pressed against his warmth with a breathless urgency.
Behind him, Turiel was speaking, something about getting out of there, but in my mind’s eye, his words melted into the red, orange, and purple energies swirling around us. They shimmered and blended together like fire.

The Watcher
(Book One in The Watcher Saga)
Millennia ago, he fell from heaven for her.
Can he face her without falling again?

Fascinated with ancient civilizations, seventeen-year-old Mia Crawford dreams of becoming an archaeologist. She also dreams of wings—soft and silent like snow—and somebody trying to steal them.

When a horrible creature appears out of thin air and attacks her, she knows Michael Fontaine is involved, though he claims to know nothing about it. Secretive and aloof, Michael evokes feelings in Mia that she doesn’t understand. Images of another time and place haunt her. She recognizes them—but not from any textbook.

In search of the truth, Mia discovers a past life of forbidden love, jealousy and revenge that tore an angel from Heaven and sent her to an early grave. Now that her soul has returned, does she have a chance at loving that angel again? Or will an age-old nemesis destroy them both?

Ancient history is only the beginning.
