Known as one of the youngest and most ambitious poker players in the country, Skyler Thorne has a reputation to uphold in Vegas this year. Her sole focus for spring semester is to perfect her game and get tournament ready – and have some fun with her sorority sisters, of course. Meeting a care-free pledge with incredible arms adds a whole new element of fun to her semester, but when a shocking discovery about his past surfaces, Skyler finds herself stuck in a game she wasn’t prepared to play.
Kip Jackson is on a mission from his father. His plan was to get in, have a little fun, and then get out – on to bigger and better things. A feisty girl with bright blue eyes wasn’t on his list of things to do, but she quickly moves her way up to the very top. When he realizes completing his dad’s mission means crushing her in the process, he must decide if his dreams are worth the risk – or if he even has the same dreams, at all.
Two secrets. Two hearts. Two hands being played in one twisted game of deceit.
When the cards are on the table, will anyone be left standing?
The perfect poker face can only hide them for so long.

Black Number Four has had me excited to read since the moment Kandi starting talking about it. I was one of the lucky ones who got the chance to read the story before it was released. Not only that but I was lucky enough to get a signed copy of the book for my library. I just finished doing a re-read of this book with a lovely group of ladies and it was a blast! I couldn't wait to share my review with everyone here.
A roller coaster of emotions I think would be an understatement for what this book truly encompasses. To paraphrase Forrest Gump "This book is like a box of chocolates you never know what you are gonna get with each page turn".
In this book with meet the fiery Skyler Thorne who is a dynamic poker and a sister at KKB at Palm South University. I like to consider Skyler a man eater and someone who gets what she wants. And when she sets her sights on Kip Jackson we all know he is a goner! When tequila shots are on the line we get to watch sparks ignite between the two!
One of my favorite lines from Skyler and Kip's first meeting was this: "He is delicious – like a cool slice of key lime pie on a hot summer day." In that instant I knew it was gonna be a hot one.
Skyler and Kip are one of those dynamic couples who can make fireworks fly but also can evoke gut wrenching heart break. Watching the journey of their relationship had be on pins and needles. When outside forces try to wedge between the relationship we watch both Kip and Skyler struggle with what they think is right and what we all know is right. Once Kip and Skyler figure out what they want their determination to fight for their love no matter the circumstance is a breathtaking moment to watch. To quote the amazing book "Black Number Four can suck it!"
As much as I have loved all of Kandi's work before this book I must say that this hands down the best writing and work she has ever done. Bravo my dear friend I can't wait to see what the rest of the world thinks about Black Number Four.
Take a chance on Black Number Four and fall in the love with Palm South University and the friends who will become your book family.
About the Author:
Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.
Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).
When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.
