Fight for the Fae
The Mirrored Prophecy 2

Chapter One (Sneak Peek)

Earlier that day…

She will lose a love, gain a love, bear love and sacrifice for love. What does that mean? The Seer’s words ring through my mind. My grandmother arranged a meeting with Epan, the Highest Druid Priest and one of his Seers, Yasmin, to discuss my future that she has foretold. A lot has been going on in the last few weeks.
It’s not every day that you learn that your fate is part of a mirrored prophecy that will determine the fate of the world.  Your first child will play a part in either destroying the world or saving it. That’s a lot for anyone to take in, but I have no choice but to accept my fate. I refuse to believe that I will play a part of destroying the human realm. Earth is as much my home as Faery is. Half of my childhood was spent here. My mother, Loredana Văduva, was a human Witch who died when I was fifteen years old in a Demon attack. Both sides of the family made sure that my brother Keegan and I spent time with my mother’s side of the family. My father Vamir Waldmar never denied my Witch side even though he is a full Fae. He is the Prince of the Light Fae to be exact, the future heir to the throne.
The marriage between my parents was arranged to create a treaty between the Witches and the Fae. Both sides have honored this agreement since my parents exchanged their nuptials. In the past two years, supernaturals have gone missing and the Witches and Fae have been working together. Recently, they have teamed up with the Shifters and the Vampires. We were able to trace the disappearances to the current leader of the Underworld and King of the Demons, Melomouzor. Melomouzor was exiled to the Underworld over a millennium ago because he was trying to develop a super Demon and take over the human realm.
Ten supernaturals, known as the Ancients, played a part in banishing him to the Underworld as a way to prevent him from conquering the human realm. He is on a mission to complete what he started and he needs my blood to help him cross over to the human realm. Any other day I would tell him to fuck himself, but he’s found a way to start bringing destruction to Earth. He’s had help bringing his Demons to the realm and kidnapping supernaturals.
We don’t know if the victims are still alive. We have no clue except that he must have been experimenting on the supernaturals and Demons. There was a large Demon attack where he sent his new enhanced Demons. These Demons were stronger, faster and we could tell that they had been enhanced with supernatural traits. We fought the Demons hard but most escaped. One of the Demons was able to capture my brother Keegan and took him to the Underworld. I want my brother back. There is no way in hell that I will rest until my brother is back from the Underworld, even if I have to sacrifice myself.
I leave the meeting that my grandmother arranged with Epan and Yasmin, stating that I am tired and want to rest before our other meeting that is scheduled in a few hours. I talk Colin into going back to check on his pack and the Legion’s progress with the Demons. Tonight’s meeting will be all supernatural leaders getting together to plan a way to defend the human realm against the new breed of Demons and keeping Melomouzor in the Underworld.
I have a plan. My amulet that hangs around my neck warms at the plan that I came up with. I can’t tell anyone my plan; if I do they will try to talk me out of it. I sneak into my room locking the door behind me. There is someone that I have to talk to and I need to go to sleep to do this. Since I have the power of the Fae, I should be able to dream walk to reach him. Before gaining these powers I didn’t know I had, I had never dream walked. Once learning the depths of my powers, I was sent to Faery to train to learn how to use them before having to make an urgent return to the human realm.
I should be able to dream walk without any problems. Having all the powers and accessing them should come easy for me. I just need to use them and not think so much. I have no choice. It will be up to me to save Keegan and the realm. I lay across my bed trying to get comfortable. This will only work if I fall asleep. I relax my breathing to slow deep breaths. My body finally relaxes and I doze off to sleep.

~~Barb’s Review~~

fight for the fae.jpg

First, thanks to the author, Ariel Marie, for providing me a copy of Fight for the Fae to read in exchange for an honest review.

Now, I'm going to be brutally honest here... I loved this story. One thousand percent! Not that I doubted it wouldn't be a winner but dang, I think Ariel upped the ladder of awesome a ring or two on this one. I think I experienced every emotion a dozen times. And... I possibly wanted to choke the life out of a few characters, hug a few and toss a couple off a bridge... but really who's counting. There is a mix and a balance between them all that you get over the choking thoughts by the next page... well for the good guys anyhow. (Laughs)

What's got me all over the place... let me tell you...

Lina and Colin along with the Fae, Wolves and Vampires are still preparing for an incoming middle called Melomouzor, the Demon King. He is working hard to make the Mirrored Prophecy happen. And he needs Lina to make that happen. The human realm is the one that will pay the price of he is allowed to cross over. Lina is willing to cross over to save her brother Keegan who the demons have taken to the Underworld. That only means Melomouzor wins round one. But what he doesn't count in is that Lina being the sneaky little Witchy-Fae she is has a trick or ten up her delicate sleeves.

There are too many people counting on her. Her family, the other supernaturals and her future all ride on what she does when she agrees to crossover to save Keegan. Even if she is now "his" there is no way in all the underworld that she will let the demon king win. She will fight until she takes her last breath. Though what Lina finds in the underworld is not exactly what she expected.

As Lina uses her own determination and the fight inside her to turn the tables on the King. It's a start right? So when they cross back over to the human real of course it's to WW3 but Lona has no knowledge of it. As she adjusts to being back in the human world she learns the depths of loyalty her people have for her. Her handmaiden who is assigned to help her and the guards assigned to protect her are loyal to her. They truly see her as their Queen and not just in the "I was ordered to be here" way but in the "I will lay my life down for you" way. Ha. Didn't see that happening!

Score -- Princess 1 Arsehat King - 0

While they hunt for Lina Colin, Keegan and the Vampires shower the realm harder. She needs to be found, now. But in the meantime they are trying to get the humans to see they are not a threat and start to help when needed. So it's not unexpected for Colon and the others to be edgy. They're all ready to rip anyone and anything apart. So when the whore-de-pack also known as Malia sets her mission to make Colin hers all hell breaks loose again. The one time Lina manages to get away from the King and comes to find Colon she also finds Malia. Yeah that went over well.

So the unstable wolf inside Colon is on the warpath. More so than normal. When it comes time to "rescue" Lina from Melomouzor it's all hands and paws on deck. But what they didn't expect was her demons standing up to protect her. Things get cray cray... like Lina goes all crazy dark Willow on Melomouzor... (Buffy fans will get that reference!) He runs off like the little patsy he is. (Laughs hard)

So now the hunter has become the hunted... May the best bad-ass win. #TeamCoLina

I now am waiting not so patiently for book 3 of The Mirrored Prophecy; Future of the Fae. Which is coming soon!

As always, here is the story told in a different light…
(laughs hard)

And for the way I feel after this read..

Will Lina be powerful enough to defeat the Demon King while saving the realms? Will true love prevail during the Fight for the Fae?

Release Blitz & Review... Jessa Jacob's Highway Song

Title: Highway Song
Series: A Smokey's Roadhouse Novel #1
Author: Jessa Jacobs
Genre: Contemporary Romance
 Release Date: September 30, 2015

How did that famous quote from that old movie go? Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world...

Well, this was a biker bar, not a gin joint, and there wasn't really a town nearby. But to have my long-lost stepbrother show up in the very place I'd washed up a month earlier like flotsam from a shipwreck - that was the same kind of irony.

Thank God he wouldn't recognize me. I'd been ten years old when he last saw me seventeen years ago. Too bad for my battered heart that I now recognized what I'd only sensed as a child. My stepbrother the rock star was hot.

“Holy fuck!”

I was lifting a mug of ice-cold draft beer for my first swig when the exclamation from our manager, Mark Brent, caused me to miss and splash half of it over my hands as I flinched. The sound of Mark’s chair hitting the floor as he jumped to his feet accompanied his exclamation. I jerked my head up, getting ready to rip him a new one, only to see him running out the front door of the bar. I set my remaining beer down quickly and then followed Mark at a brisk pace, along with the others.

As soon as I was out the front door, the rest of the band members clustering around me, I saw the reason for Mark’s alarm. The bus was on fire.

Joe, the driver had an inadequate-looking fire extinguisher aimed underneath the vehicle, where black smoke roiled out unchecked by the foam. As soon as the guys saw what was going on, pandemonium broke loose. Unlike bigger bands, ours traveled with no crew. Our instruments and accessories, all but a drum kit, were in the luggage hold, perilously near the fire. Ike, the drummer, was the only one who didn’t run to the bus to rescue equipment, besides me.

I froze for half a second, and then used lungs more used to belting out rock music to yell. “Guys! Get away from there! It could go up. Holy shit, it’s just things.” Axel, Kirk and Cole ignored me, while Mark took off after them. I turned to Ike. “Call 911!”

“Rex, take a look around. There’s no town. This is just a shitty little biker bar in the middle of BFE-nowhere Wyoming. Where do you think a fire crew is going to come from?”

I lifted my gaze and stared out at the highway stretching from the east horizon to the west. Ike was right. Not a building in sight, other than Smokey’s Roadhouse, the bar where we’d stopped for lunch. The smoke from under the bus was dissipating though. Maybe the fire extinguisher had been enough after all.

Mark had managed to pull Cole, the bass player, away from the bus, but the two guitarists were still banging on the luggage hold, as if that would make it magically open. I couldn’t blame them. Between them, they probably had thousands of dollars’ worth of back line in that hold.

By rights it should have been in a crew bus. Even as I watched the bus destroy what might be our last chance to make it before some of the guys bailed on me, I knew it was my fault. Extinction wasn’t just our band name. It was a real possibility for our careers if this damn fire meant the bus wasn’t road-worthy.

He didn’t recognize me, thank God. I couldn’t afford for anyone to know who or where I was. After I calmed down, I reasoned it out. It had been seventeen years since he’d last seen me, and I was only ten at the time. There wasn’t a snowball’s chance in hell he’d know me now. Not only had I grown up, I’d grown up hard.

On the other hand, I knew what that cool once-over meant. His eyes lingered on my cleavage a second too long. If I knew men, and I had good reason to, he’d make a play for me sometime tonight. I couldn’t let that happen under any circumstances. It would just be too weird, even though our relationship was less than nothing.

His mother had married my father nineteen years ago. Like most of the women Dad attracted, she took off soon, though she did manage to last two years. She took her seventeen-year-old son with her. She hugged me before she left, and whispered, “I wish I could take you with me, honey, but he’d come after us. I’ll report him to the authorities.”

I had no idea what that meant, then. And if she did, it went nowhere. My dad needed a substitute punching bag, and I got nominated by default. Whenever I hid from him, I pretended my big stepbrother, Rick, would find me and take me with him this time. But his last words to me, “See you kid,” never came true. I hadn’t seen him again, until now.

The men at the table with Rick called him Rex. I’d changed my name too. During the course of an otherwise slow afternoon, I gathered a few bits of information as I served them. They were a band—a rock band I assumed—and their bus had caught fire in our parking lot. It looked like it wasn’t going anywhere soon. My boss, Smokey, said it would probably take the rest of the day for a mechanic to get here to assess the damage. Highway 80 had plenty of traffic, but it was a long stretch of just about nothing from Rawlins to Rock Springs.

~~Emmy’s Review~~

highway song.jpg

Many thanks to the author, who provided a copy of Highway Song in exchange for an honest review.

I was privileged to be included on Jessa’s review team for her previous serial romances, Full Tilt Billionaire and Irrationally His.  When I was told that her next book would be a full length novel I was thrilled.  When I discovered it was named after my favorite Blackfoot song, I was hooked.  This is the first novel in the Smokey’s Roadhouse series, and each story will be set around or have some connection with Smokey’s Roadhouse, an outlaw biker bar out in the middle of Wyoming.

In this novel, a down on their luck rock band finds themselves stuck at the bar when their bus breaks down.  They are in a pickle, because the gig they are desperately trying to get to is probably their last chance at a recording contract.  But even that is not going to stop the lead singer, Rex Beck,  from trying to get a piece of Amy, the bartender.  Amy found herself drifting through town a month earlier and managed to convince Smokey himself to give her a job.  Smokey could tell that she was running from something, and took mercy on her, giving her both a job and a safe place to stay.

In a funny twist, Rex, or Rick as Amy knows him, is actually her former step brother whom she hasn’t seen in many, many years.  His mother left her father when Amy was only ten.

He shows no sign of having recognized her, although she knew him right off.  Her life since his departure has been nothing less than a nightmare.  She has come through some very rough times, and lives as though she is being hunted - and perhaps she is.  Rex’s past is also troubled, and he has suffered his own losses through the years.  His band, Oklahoma Sweet Crude, is his life’s dream, and he has worked for years trying to make them successful.  He fears that time is running out for them, and is risking it all on one last chance at glory.

Is Rex Amy’s salvation from her past, or is Amy his key to the future?  Can these two save each other?  Can they stand together in the face of their mutual past?

I was thrilled with this book.  This author’s characters have always been well drawn, but Rex and Amy’s personalities are electric.  I have to applaud how dark and gritty Amy’s past was; it was quite a departure from series past.  I liked that the author was not afraid to show us the ugly side of life, and what consequences could come of it.  Amy is a character that you can’t help but feel for.  She has come through so much, and has so much farther to go. I’m not afraid of the dark, and I’d welcome it if the rest of this series just as realistically done.
