Audrey Parker is up against the boards. She’s stuck in a job she hates and pining for a total jerk. Meanwhile, her sister Fallon is moving out and getting married to hockey star Lucas Brooks. Where is Audrey’s Prince Charming? Nothing she does has ever seemed to be good enough for any of the men in her life. Audrey’s about to hit rock bottom . . . until she wakes up next to Tate Odder.
The thrill of moving up from the minors to the Nashville Assassins was a welcome distraction. But not even becoming the first rookie goalie to tally three shutouts in the Stanley Cup Finals alleviates the pain. With the loss of his parents and sister weighing as heavily on his soul as ever, Tate Odder can’t keep pretending he’s okay. That’s when he meets smart, sexy Audrey. Her gentle warmth and quirky sense of humor make him feel whole for the first time in too long. But to stay that way forever, Tate must find a way to accept his past and learn to live for love.
Oh. My. Hockey. Pucks. Talk about an emotionally charged, frustration filled book. Who would have thought that Audrey Parker would have met her match then try to get away from him? I wanted to smack her a few times. Ha. That seems to be a theme with the Parker woman. And Tate, oh my sweet Swedish Tate.. He is just yummy on a stick. Cute, sweet and a heart of absolute gold!
Audrey Parker is stuck in a life that is not going where she wanted it to go. She has a job she hates, an empty condo and an on again off again arsehole of a twatwaffle for a ‘boy friend’. Levi is a lot of nasty words. I’m not a fan of his. So when Audrey and he break up, again I hoped it was for the last time but the girl likes punishment. She kept taking him back. (throws hands in the air.) Girl needed an intervention and thankfully she got it.. in the way of Tate Odder. The Assassins lead goalie. The now 21 year old meets Audrey in a bar. (Ready the bar jokes.) And he literally rocks her world that night. A five minute convo sent them into a whirlwind of bliss only to have Audrey run of on him the next morning. Poor Tate.
When they meet up again at an event for the Assassins.. Audrey is kinda knocked over. But choosing to ignore him is her best bet. As she internally yells at herself for “sleeping with a child.” Which made me LOL because he is 21. She is 28... it’s not that big of a deal. Plus Tate likes his woman loud, proud he finds a hot little Audrey instead. The boy is a fighter. What do I mean by that? He is determined to get what he wants. And that is Audrey. Audrey on the other hand is still trying to get over Levi the twattwaffle and is kind of being a heffa bout it. She keeps pushing Tate away…. until she can’t anymore. You can only resist that charm for so long. And honey… he is definitely not a man to back down from any kind of fight. He is just.. Hawt!
Even though they are trying this friends thing and growing into a relationship there are skeletons in both their closets that have a bearing on their reactions to things and do leave the other going, “what the hell happened there?” Finally Audrey tells Tate what really bothers her and why she thinks he needs someone other than her. This sets off a roller coaster of emotions and it takes some serious work on his part for Tate to get her to completely open up but once she does he is in. Tate, finally having a way in gets to show her not only why this will work but how much she really means to him.
Though as with so many things as soon as they get on a path that could lead them to a place they both so desperately need… and want the past comes back full force. What once was is no longer and it’s up to Tate to try and save what his heart desires the most. But ultimately it’s out of his hands. Fate and Destiny now have to battle it out and see if what they wanted all along will come true.
About the Author:
My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.
I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.
I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.
… and did I mention I love hockey?
