ZANDER—The most feared of all the Eternal Guardians. It’s rumored he can’t be killed, and he always fights like he has nothing to lose. But as a descendant of the famed hero Achilles, he’s got to have a vulnerability… somewhere.
Forces of daemons are gathering and have broken through the barriers of the Underworld. Now more than ever the Eternal Guardians are needed to protect both their own realm and the humans’. Zander can’t afford to think about what might have been with the bewitching physician he once regarded as his soul mate. But with eternity stretching before him, he also can’t fathom spending his life without the one woman who makes him feel most alive. Perhaps he’s found his weakness, after all…
Well.. just dang. I liked Zander from marked, even if it was just a brief encounter. though you only get a glimpse of the Guardians there… but there is something about him. He’s a big teddybear that is very hungry. That is the best way to describe him. Pent up anger, frustration, and a need that is clawing at his insides to get out of the rut he is stuck in. He found his lifemate, his soul, his heart ten years ago.. but she was lost to him even though she was within reach. A reach he stayed far from.
This book had sooooooo many O.o moments. I mean, dear lord. Not only are the Argonauts trying to sort out the demons, deal with the king and his need to hurry up and get his daughter, married off before he dies, now Zander has to deal with the fact that his life is about to take a full on flop. Since Theron married Casey Isadora needs a new ‘mate’. When a meeting in the kings bed chambers ends with Zander volunteering to be her ‘mate’ things start to fall apart.
Demon attacks. A new threat on the horizon brings in a new player… the king’s personal healer, Callia. Callia is not just some girl. Not just a healer. She is Zander’s one. And has been since he first laid eyes on her. When he volunteers to become Isadora’s mate Callia is hurt. But things for them changed ten years ago. The hurt, hatred and pain that could come from the past they shared was amplified when she heard him trying to give himself to another. Though things change between them when the Argonauts are dispatched to the human realm. One of the mesos colonies has been attacked and it’s up to the argonauts to save the ones running for the hills, literally. But a demon attack leaves Zander hurt. Badly. Bad enough that Callia is pulled into the human realm to save him.
The sparks that start to fly between them. Then the hurt and anger grows us they face off in the cave where Zander is trying to heal. Then.. Zander oversteps and Callia gets pissed and runs off. And right into trouble. Right into the hands of the demons. Thankfully Zander and Titus are able to get her out of there. Worst thing is.. she and Zander are both in a world of hurt and on a path that could lead them both to temptation and death if they don’t play their cards right. Serious amounts of drama, anger and a helluva lot of hot, demanding, much needed sex. The bond that was once there between them has now gone to a new level… but things don’t end there.
Argonauts are stubborn. Healers are stubborn.. and when the past comes back to them full force its a slap in the face for them both. It pushes them to come together and work as a team. Its the only way to really save what they have.. and it’s up to Callia to make a move to save them. To save Zander and herself. To be a family. To be… one again.
