ORPHEUS--To most he's an enigma, a devil-may-care rogue who does whatever he pleases whenever he wants. Now this loose cannon is part of the Eternal Guardians--elite warriors assigned to protect the human realm--whether he likes it or not.
Orpheus has just one goal: to rescue his brother from the Underworld. He's not expecting a woman to get in the way. Especially not a Siren as gorgeous as Skyla. He has no idea she's an assassin sent by Zeus to seduce, entrap, and ultimately destroy him.
Yet Skyla herself might have the most to lose. There's a reason Orpheus feels so familiar to her, a reason her body seems to crave him. Perhaps he's not the man everyone thinks... The truth could reveal a deadly secret as old as the Eternal Guardians themselves.
Well...... just Dayum! I've not been a big fan of demon boy... he's okay, he's an arse but that's okay. This book makes me see him in a whole new light. And again, just dayum! (laughs) Talk about a spinning fail of "what the hell?" And "Oh no you didn't!" I'm glad we got to see the real Orpheus in this book. The man, the demon, the argonaut... the man meant to face down a God and not break a sweat. And Skyla... the hot little siren who makes him weak in the knees... girlfriend is hot to trot and ready to kick some butt.
Orpheus is on a mission. He needs to find someone, a girl named Maelea. But she is not any old ordinary girl. No she is special, extremely so. She is the bastard daughter of Zeus and Persephone. Yes, the God and the Goddess had one hell of a fling and then came Maelea. She carries the darkness of the underworld and the light of the heavens. But that is not what Orpheus wants her for. No he needs her so he can find the warlock that stole Gryphons body and sent him to the underworld. It’s payback time and Orpheus is a man on a mission. What he doesn’t know is he has someone on his shirt tales too. Someone special that is there to keep him in line and make sure when he finds the warlock and gets the orb back that it is brought to Zeus. Have I mentioned before I am not a fan of these gods. They are arseholes.
Skyla, one of Zeus's sirens is confronted with trouble when she tries to get Orpheus away from Maelea… but that doesn't work out so well when they are confronted with three demon hybrids. The only thing he could do was… go demon. Skyla got to see him in the full view of his demon but unlike the others he isn’t a danger to Skyla. There is an unease between them both but at the same time there is a comradery. He grows on Skyla. (laughs) He is a loveable arsehole that is for sure. Half demon or not he is still an awesome dude. He has up a shield that no one has been able to break through yet.
With a plan of action in place Orpheus goes after Maelea again. This time Skyla is on his butt. Where he goes she goes. But when they arrive at Maelea’s house.. they are not alone. Hellhounds have found them. With a little quick thinking and a few tricks thanks to the earth element orpheus has he is able to get them out of there… but now they are on the run. There is only one place to go. The Colony. Nick of course takes them in but he is not happy about having Maelea there. But really, who could blame him. She is like a ticking time bomb between good and evil.. of the purest kind. And she is a brat.. (laughs)
When it’s time for Orpheus to put his plan in play Skyla and Demetrius go with him. And it isn’t long until he has the man he wants, the plan for rescuing his brother from the bowels of hell and a chip on his shoulder. While Dem stays back to tend to the warlock they managed to capture Orpheus and Skyla head to the entry to Hell. Because only Skyla knows where it is. The journey in was easy but then things went upside down and they find Gryphon. Broken, beat, and all but a shell of the soul he should be. Months in the bowels of hell will do that to you I guess. But it is not as easy to get out as they thought.
Once they are out, free of immediate danger they reunite Gryph’s body with his soul. Sounds easy right? Well it was but the tortured man he has become is enough to crush anyone. There is a new darkness that he is full of that they are not sure will go away. But that is not the last challenge for them. God’s don’t play well with others. Demons and the spawn of hell are on the outcrops and it’s all a lot of “Oh Sh*t” moments…
One of my favorite books so far. I know there are more to go and I love them all but I can’t wait for more.
