Emmy's Review... Surge

Dyson Vix. The bad boy of Formula One Racing.

The first time I met him he was completely naked, and he couldn’t have cared less. The ultimate playboy, there isn’t a hairpin turn he can’t handle or a woman he can’t have. Dyson lives life like he drives – hard, determined, and like it might be his last day.

The second time I saw Dyson, he just stood there, staring at me. His fire suit hung low on his waist, and his body was dripping in sweat, grease and… well, you get the idea.

We couldn’t have been more different. After a family tragedy, I’ve been left to raise my nephew, Simon, all alone. Raising him has given me more joy than I could’ve imagined, but it came at a price. He is my entire world, and everything I do is with him in mind. I haven’t had a date in months, instead focusing solely on him. Man troubles are the last thing we need, especially the kind reckless thrill seeker Dyson Vix would bring.

But fate has other ideas.

I’ve been thrust into his fast-paced world, and the more time I spend with him -- the more I see of the troubled man behind the roguish charm -- the more my resolve crumbles. Our chemistry is undeniable but isn’t without risk. Jealousy and threats to my home life mean I could lose everything I’ve worked so hard to protect.

The stakes have never been higher.

Will we make it, or are we destined to crash and burn?

Many thanks to the author, who provided a free copy of Surge in exchange for an honest review.

Sloan has hit this one out of the park, in my humble opinion. I read and enjoyed both of her previous serial series, Never Never Man and Slipperless, but often found myself wanting to choke the life out of her female characters. In Surge, she has created a new creature with Ava.

Yeah, she’s a little uptight and judgmental, but her reasons why are valid and well explained. She has dedicated her life to raising her young nephew Simon, and I can respect her skepticism of Dyson. He’s the quintessential player, complete with twin blonde hangers-on. She has no reason at all to take him seriously when he expresses interest in her.

Ava is given an offer she can’t refuse, which results in her having to be in contact with Dyson. This gives him a chance to prove to her that he’s not just looking to get in her pants - although he would like that as well. He proves his worth to her when an unexpected person from her past threatens her life with Simon. This causes Ava to look at Dyson with new eyes. But this love affair was never going to be an easy one, and conflicts quickly arise. Will Dyson’s pride tear them apart, or will Ava’s doubt be the death of their relationship before it really starts?

I found this book to have a well put together storyline, with characters that kept me interested. I’m looking forward to watching this author expand her horizons with more full length standalone novels in the future.

About the Author:

Sloan Storm is a verbally difficult, yet physically generous, writer who pens imaginative yarns based on dominant men and the women who challenge them.

As such, power plays and passion are the heart of each and every story. The writer's creative tendencies may drift as the mood strikes, but the essence of all tales told wind up back at the same place... the polarizing difference between the sexes.

After all, what else is there in life?

When not glued to a keyboard creating tales of whimsy, Sloan loves to talk to fans! If you want to connect, you can do it in any number of ways:
