**HIS Choice is book #2 in the HIS series and is a standalone**
AJ Hamilton never expected his life to spiral so low. Tangled up with Baltimore's largest crime boss, The Magician, he is ordered to threaten a bothersome reporter. His attraction to Megan Rogers was as unexpected as was their heated encounter. AJ tries to warn her off. When she doesn't heed his advice, he's forced to protect her from herself. After witnessing something that puts their lives in danger, he kidnaps her.
When AJ saves Megan from the clutches of certain death, they must go on the run to stay alive. Tensions are high and their passions flare as they fight to stay one step ahead of The Magician. As they put their plan to expose him into action, AJ is forced to make a choice. But no matter the option he chooses, he may not be able to protect her or their hearts.
*Due to the sexual content, this book is recommended for mature audiences only*
First off, many thanks to Hot Tree Promotions and Sheila Kell for providing a copy of His Choice in exchange for an honest review.
Just so you know, AJ turned into Tony DiNozzo from NCIS in my head the minute he opened his mouth in His Desire, the first book in this series.
The AJ that we meet in this novel is a million miles away from the AJ of His Desire. This AJ has quit the FBI, and when we first run across him, he is working for a crime boss known as the Magician. The Magician has his fingers in every criminal enterprise you can think of. The drug arm of his kingdom is known as the Magic Shop, he runs guns and women, and as a sideline, breaks high profile criminals out of prison. For a fee, he replaces the client with another person altered to look like the client and take his place in jail, while the client is free as a bird with new credentials and a new life. AJ is an enforcer for this organization, and a hitman. (or is he?)
Enter Megan, a crack reporter who is trying her best to bring down the Magician. It’s personal for her. Her brother, who was also an investigative reporter, has recently gone missing, and Megan has no doubt that the Magician is behind it. Kevin was working this case before her, and when he went missing she picked up the reins. Megan is too good at her job, and it’s not long before she and AJ cross paths. He is sent to “warn her off” of the case, which should have been code for “beat her up” but AJ was attracted to her from first sight and only gives her a verbal warning. Megan is hard headed though, and doesn’t take his threats seriously. She follows her leads until she witnesses something that causes her to be marked for death by the Magic Shop.
AJ rescues her from the hitman sent to kill her, and they go together on the run, using only their separate contacts to accomplish their now mutual goal: flush out and expose the Magician.
The author keeps us guessing in this second book of the series: it was driving me insane trying to figure out AJ’s motivations, and I didn’t get confirmation until well into the story. Even though I found the time I had to read limited, I was able to slip in and out without losing my place in the story. The action was tight and the suspense well drawn out in a thrilling race to the finish. This author has really started something with this series, and I am looking forward to seeing which brother’s book is up next.
Till next time,
I need to thank Hot Tree Promotions and the author, Sheila Kell for gifting me a copy of HIS Desire. This is now my second Sheila Kell novel and I can say I will be adding her to my “one click” group. Things started a little jumbled. And, I will be honest the beginning lost me a few times, things moved a little slow as well. BUT.. I think that was just me. I LOVE AJ and I knew this book was gonna rock it. I mean, really what’s not to love? I can tell you… nothing, you have to love it all.
Now this book has a little… bit of chaos right from the start and I love that. Reporters, Drug Deals and bad men, Oh My. Megan is on the hunt for answers. What happened to her brother Kevin? Was he killed? She didn’t want to think that but in reality when you start exposing drug rings and bad men that kind of thing happens. You become fish food, or sludge in a barrel. (gags) Megan, the ever so fearless reporter continues to follow leads. She is stalking the pimps, meeting with her informants and.. running into big scary lookin’ men in alleyways.
AJ, the youngest Hamilton brother seems to have had a change in employers. The once FBI agent and all around good guy is now one of the enforcers for the drug men Megan on the hunt for. That should scare Megan of the story she is working but it doesn’t. Piece by piece the puzzle of “what happened to Kevin” starts to piece itself together. When she gets a little too close to the action AJ is sent to scare her off. But that is not all he does.
The thing is.. Megan and AJ have a connection, if you can call it that. It’s much more than that. It’s a yearning, a need even to be with each other.
The threat of the Magic Shop and the Magician are not enough to make Megan stop looking for the man (or woman) in charge. She wants to be able ot put her brother’s disappearance and most likely his death behind her. Bring the bad guys down and let their family grieve in a way that they can't do now. It’s not until Megan witnesses one of the Magic shops enforcers that her life becomes that of a woman on the run. Witnessing it’s one thing... but now thanks to her reporters “need to put her nose in every steaming pile she can get it into to search out a story” she is being ‘kidnapped’ only to be let go again. But that was a mistake that can’t happen again. As soon as the story runs of what happened Megan and AJ have to start a new way of life, for the time being.
On the run the stories still continue. They can’t trust anyone. The magician has deep pockets and a reach a mile long. Its as if he has everyone on his payroll. A life on the run for Megan and AJ complicates things. Like the burning desire they have growing between them both. They could die at any moments at the hands of someone from the magic shop but they are determined to bring the magician down. No matter what comes up Megan just can’t leave AJ and AJ will give his life to save hers. She is his for the time being, and he will do what he has to. But after all they can’t be in this alone. Jesse and Kate have their backs. As does the HIS team when they get back from an assignment.
Its now time to play possum and see who stirs in the dark. When the final bell is rang (so to speak) it’s an epic showdown of good vs evil. And for a minute there…….. I thought things may go south. Then they did. My heart stopped a few times and there may have been a gasp or ten. A few persons involved get called all kinds of nasty names… LOL but in the end all that matters is life goes on. You have to take one day at a time. And pray for the best outcome. Megan and AJ have had a fun ride but as their lives part, their hearts are left with a lasting memory of what could have been. The future however is left up to fate...
I was super excited to read this book because I loved the first book in this series so much. I had to know what was going to happen to AJ and see if he was going to get a HEA.
For me I had trouble getting into the first half of the book. It felt jumbled to me because when I was trying to visualize what happening I found it hard to. I don't do well with third person point of view but I thought because I was able to read the first book it wouldn't be hard.. After about 60% through the book I was finally getting the swing of things and enjoying the book.
AJ in my book will always come second to his brother but that is cause I have a soft spot for Jesse. But in true Hamilton brother fashion they sure know how to woo a woman and have a toe-curling good time. ;) I loved watching the chemistry build between Megan and AJ.
As far as the plot line I had a idea of who the villain was about 75% into the book but as always in true fashion our author throws a monkey wrench in your thought process and leaves you stunned with the truth!
And the last thing I have to say is.... Do I see a third book in the future? Thank you for the chance to read this book!
