Excerpt:
Kissing her was the last thing he should think about. Her soft curves pressed up against him and drove him crazy. He wasn’t dead in spite of his attempts to remain faithful to Moira’s memory. He was only a man, after all. And Callie was a lot of woman.
“The narcos want to kill you?” A tremble seeped through in her voice.
B.J. hoped to spare her the details. He wrenched his thoughts back to the situation at hand. He would need every bit of skill he had and some he’d only dreamed of.
“So here’s what we know. The two gunmen took off in the Suburban to go to a different checkpoint so they’re out of the picture. Abbott is behind us in the Mustang. Manny and some other dude are in the cab.”
Callie didn’t respond. For someone who said she wanted to talk, he expected her to jump into the subject. She was probably scared, and with good reason, but he needed her to be able to think.
Smack in the middle of all this kidnapping stuff, she let slip that there were articles about Moira. That blindsided him. Leave it to a librarian to find information on him. None of his buddies had ever asked about a dead wife. His old coworkers might bring it up. In the end, there was nothing he could do except what he normally did: pretend it wasn’t there.
“Karl has some kind of deal going with the narcos. I think he’s trading that AR15 for you,” B.J. kept going.
“You heard all that?” She leaned back and looked up at him.
“I heard enough. Have you been to Ciudad Juárez?” If she felt like talking, he may as well get some education out of it. Then he could forget about her body pressed up against him. He wouldn’t try to imagine the taste of her lips.

Ten things about Risa… see what you may or may not know about her…

If you looked at me, you wouldn’t be surprised to know:
           I was a school librarian
I sing in my church choir
           I live in Texas
           I have two grandchildren
While working at Barnes and Noble, I did storytime

If you looked at me, you WOULD be surprised to know:
I wrote Surrender at the Border, especially because of the cover! (because I look more like a librarian)
I sang back-up for Larry Gatlin (after all I am from Texas)
I got lost while walking in Montreal, London and Paris as well as New York City and Boston (but I wasn’t lost for long)
I grew up in Midland, Tx and I don’t have an accent (or at least people from Texas tell me that)
Occasionally I clean off my bookcase (because there are still tons of books).
